Aegean Airlines was founded in 1999 and became the flag carrier of Greece around 2010, after the bankruptcy of Olympic Airlines. The airline has consistently been named the "Best Regional Airline in Europe" at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, but does it really live up to its reputation? Well, in some areas I think Aegean is above average. For this relatively short flight from Belgrade to Athens I found the snack quite generous, and it certainly puts the offering of many fellow European carriers to shame. Moreover, they did a full beverage service, and they even handed out candies upon entering the aircraft. There also was an inflight magazine on board, which again is not something every European airline provides these days. Other than that, the crew was friendly and hospitable, and getting seconds wasn't a problem. With that being said, there's certainly room for improvement as far as Aegean Airlines is concerned. For instance, the cabin could really do with some maintenance, as quite a few of the seats had broken parts and overall looked pretty worn. Legroom wasn't great either, and while it was doable for this hour-and-a-half long flight, it's good to know that Aegean also uses its Airbuses on flights that are well over 4 hours long. Aside from that, there were no charging ports, WiFi or inflight entertainment on board our aircraft, although it should be noted that these features (+ adjustable headrests) are available on the carrier's A320/A321neos. So if you're flying on one of those instead, I'm sure you'll have an even better passenger experience.
