August fourteenth, 2026. Dollywood is opening the biggest ride in the park's history, and the woman whose name is on the gate isn't there. She sends a video from home, standing in front of a pair of butterfly wings, and explains her absence like a scheduling problem. Eleven days later she was dead. Eighty years old, at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. Seven weeks after her funeral, Bono said she had spent part of that same summer doing something the public knew nothing about. He told Rolling Stone, in an interview published September twenty-fourth: when she got ill, she got out of her bed to sing this song. Then the sentence that traveled further than the first one. And you can hear that. And I can't even listen to it now. The song is called Torn. Recorded in June. Track twelve on a U2 album that doesn't arrive until November thirteenth. ▸ Subscribe for the next untold story:    / @untoldfamefiles   ▸ Watch next:    • This Video of Dolly Parton Will Make You C...   Sources & context This documentary is commentary and analysis built on public information, including reporting from Rolling Stone, TODAY, Billboard, Variety, ABC News, NPR, NBC News, Fox News, People, Parade, CNN and CBS News.
