Welcome to Learn Sitar From Scratch – Lesson 28.
In this lesson, we continue our systematic Alankar practice and move from simple forward and reverse patterns to Forward, Reverse and Mixed Alankar Patterns.
I am Samarendra Mondal, disciple of Pandit Debaprasad Chakraborty of the Maihar Gharana.
In Lesson 27, we introduced pattern reversal. In this lesson, we combine both directions and develop the ability to recognise and execute changing patterns with greater control.
In This Lesson, You Will Practise:
• Forward Alankar patterns
• Reverse Alankar patterns
• Forward + Reverse combinations
• Mixed direction patterns
• Three-swar mixed patterns
• Four-swar mixed sequences
• Different rhythmic groupings
• Speed changes: Slow → Medium → Faster → Medium → Slow
• Pattern memory and mental control
• Finger independence and coordination
• Mizrab control and relaxation
• Continuous Alankar playing
The objective is not simply to play complicated patterns. The goal is to develop mental control, finger independence, rhythmic stability and technical accuracy.
TODAY'S CHALLENGE
Choose five Alankar patterns and play them:
Forward → Reverse → Forward → Reverse → Forward
Then change the order:
Reverse → Forward → Reverse → Forward → Reverse
Finally, create your own mixed sequence and try to play it from memory.
Remember:
Train your mind to recognise the pattern before your fingers play it.
