Chile 3-0 Australia | Zamorano Double Against the Socceroos | 24 April 1996

Please note: This footage is in black and white, with commentary in Chilean Spanish. Paul Wade captains the Socceroos against Chile in an international friendly played in Antofagasta on 24 April 1996, as the hosts prepare for their return to World Cup qualifying. With injuries, European club commitments and the Australian domestic finals limiting selection, coach Eddie Thomson takes a depleted squad to South America. The Australian line-up features Mark Bosnich, Harry Kewell, Kevin Muscat and Mehmet Duraković, but an already difficult assignment becomes tougher when Dominic Longo and Danny Tiatto suffer shoulder injuries and Joe Spiteri is sent off during the first half. Despite those setbacks, Australia reaches half-time with the match scoreless. Chile eventually breaks through with an Iván Zamorano header in the 52nd minute, before Esteban Valencia doubles the lead after 62 minutes. Substitute Marcelo Salas then provides the delivery for Zamorano's second in the 82nd minute, completing a 3-0 victory.
