6th ward Steppers send off for Jerome “Big Duck” Smith

6th Ward Steppers, a social pleasure club from New Orleans, LA held a memorial tribute second line to honor a local Civil Rights Icon, Jerome "Big Duck: Smith. Smith died on August 21st at 87 years old. He founded Tambourine and Fan Club, he participated in the civil rights movement, including countless lunch counter sit-ins and he was one of the freedom riders. Big Duck was a leader in his community of Treme and well loved. They will have a public viewing on Friday, September 11th at Gallier Hall. His funeral and homegoing services will be held September 12th at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.
