Did Chandragupta Maurya really defeat Seleucus? Not one ancient text describes that battle, and no ancient source names "Helen". What the oldest writers do record is a trade: a huge stretch of land going one way, and five hundred war elephants going the other. A few years later those elephants turned up at Ipsus, far to the west, and helped decide who would inherit Alexander's empire.
This is Source-First: we take the oldest voices first, say when each was written, and keep what they say apart from what later stories added. So was it a defeat for Seleucus, or a smart trade? Tell me in the comments.
