🌿 Exploring Belum Caves | One of India’s Longest Natural Cave Systems | Andhra Pradesh 🪨✨ Deep beneath the land of Andhra Pradesh lies a completely different world — Belum Caves! 🤍 Stretching for around 3.2 km, Belum Caves is one of the longest natural cave systems in India and the second-longest in the Indian subcontinent. These magnificent caves were naturally formed in limestone over thousands of years by the continuous action of underground water. Inside, you can find long passages, huge chambers, narrow tunnels, stalactite and stalagmite formations, water galleries and many fascinating natural rock formations. One of the most interesting places inside is Patalaganga, located at the deepest part of the cave, around 46 metres below the entrance level. It is associated with an underground stream that flows through the cave and disappears into the depths. During our visit, we were lucky to see water flowing there because of the rainy conditions. There are also several fascinating sections inside the caves, including Simhadwaram, Kotilingalu, Saptasvarala Guha (Musical Chamber) and Dhyan Mandir. The caves also have historical significance, with evidence suggesting that Jain and Buddhist monks may have used some sections for meditation. 🌧️ Our experience was a little different! Since we visited during the rainy season, some parts were extremely wet, muddy and slippery, and we couldn't explore all the chambers. Having a guide made the experience much easier because they knew the routes and helped with the lighting in the accessible sections. If you're planning to explore Belum Caves, carrying a torch/phone flashlight and wearing proper footwear would be a good idea.
