A dusk-to-night walk through Machiya in Arakawa, Tokyo — the sixth walk in our Toden series. We start at Machiya-ekimae Station on the Toden Arakawa Line, Tokyo's last streetcar, and watch a few trams roll by before slipping into the backstreets: Hara Inari Shrine, Naritasan Ryufukuji Temple, a sky turning purple over the rooftops, and lanes barely wide enough for one person. Somewhere after dark, the sweet scent of kinmokusei (orange osmanthus) fills the air. We finish at the Hara-chugakko-iriguchi bus stop.
No talking, no music — just the sounds of the town.
Route: Machiya-ekimae Sta. (Toden Arakawa Line) → Hara-chugakko-iriguchi Bus Stop
Weather: Sunny, 21°C / 70°F, filmed in October 2026
Turn on captions (CC) for a few quiet notes along the way.
