It introduces folk band Brown Wimpenny who have written a song for the exhibition with the Creative Crew. Finally it invites the participants to bring their Artist Passes with them on 30th May for the special opening event complete with a gathering of young people dressed as starlings to perform a a murmuration. Sophie Tyrrell's exhibition 'Oldham Wakes!', in the form of a carnival parade, will take place from the end of May in Gallery Oldham. Sophie's work explores the traditions of Oldham's Wake Weeks and links important environmental themes of the on going damage from the industrialisation of Oldham and its surrounding countryside and moorland. 1490 young people have been recruited and asked to create starlings in Sophie's folk art style to make a murmuration hanging from the ceiling of the gallery. Starlings are now endangered and are on the UK's red list. Sophie has been working in conjunction with Emma Martin, who is an artist and participation specialist, to create this important part of 'Oldham Wakes!'
