Nahar Doos ki Baodi (also spelled Nahar Dhoos ki Baori or Nahardhus ki Bawdi) is an elegant, lesser-known stepwell located on the outskirts of Bundi, Rajasthan. Bundi is globally renowned as the "City of Stepwells," and this particular structure is a prominent feature among the town's fifty-odd historic water reservoirs. Location : Situated in Bundi, right opposite the Public District Library. Etymology & Legend : According to local folklore, the area was once a dense forest where "Nahar" (lions/tigers) came to drink water. The name is tied to a local legend where a lion reportedly fell into the well while trying to drink. Design & Structure : Built using pale-coloured stone, the stepwell features a multi-tiered descent. A series of symmetrical steps leads visitors down in two distinct stages under a prominent fluted archway, resembling an inverted ziggurat as it approaches the water level.
