Sukh Mahal (also known as Sukh Niwas Mahal or the "Palace of Bliss") is a historic 18th-century royal summer retreat located on the scenic banks of Jait Sagar Lake in Bundi, Rajasthan. Built primarily in 1776 A.D. during the region's princely rule, this two-story white stone structure was designed specifically as a cool haven for the Maharajas to escape the blistering desert summers and host royal hunting parties. Today, it is deeply celebrated for its natural cooling engineering, beautiful terraced gardens, and its famous literary connection to author Rudyard Kipling. The structure was ingeniously engineered with open corridors, elegant jharokhas (overhanging enclosed balconies), and water channels designed to pull cool breezes directly off the lotus-covered lake, naturally lowering the building's temperature.
