First of two nights at Cardiff’s Utility arena. I’m more there for Suede than Manics, but I do really like some of their stuff. The Holy Bible is my airplane album, a lot of the time I’m flying I listen to that on the flight. Getting to hear Die In The Summertime off that album was pretty satisfying. The real highlight though was Kevin Carter, a song with a helluva catchy guitar riff. I love that riff so much. Other than the above, the only other Manics songs I’m familiar with are on Journal For Plague Lovers but they don’t play these songs anymore so obviously- wait hang on is that Marlon J.D.? Only a snippet, but it’s one of my favourite songs of that album and I’m very pleased they played it.
As for the rest of the show, Manic Street Preachers are very good live but I’ll admit I was slightly lost. Pretty much everything between Marlon J.D. and Die was fine but didn’t really do anything for me. I do like If You Tolerate This though I did get a bit jumpscared at the confetti, the sound of which you can hear on the recording.
By the second half of the show my camera batteries were running low and I had to swap back and forth quite a few times hence the black screen at the start of some songs where the gap between them wasn’t long enough for me to swap batteries. Not knowing Manics as well as Suede meant I had to guess the right time to swap more.
