In recent developments, a troubling case has emerged involving Twitter influencer named Himansh has been accused of impersonating a SEBI-registered Research Analyst (RA) to lure investors into his premium Telegram channel.
We received an email a few days back where all this was highlighted by the person who sent it.
Operating under the guise of legitimacy, he allegedly used the official license of SEBI RA Suresh Shriram Sharma, presenting himself as a certified financial advisor and encouraging users to join his paid group for stock market tips and recommendations.
When we investigated further, we discovered some alarming details. After making a payment via a RIGI link, we accessed the premium Telegram channel, only to find an array of SEBI-violative content.
The channel was filled with investment tips, trading recommendations, and specific stock level advice – all in direct violation of SEBI’s RA Regulations 2014 and the recent Master Circular 2023. With this evidence in hand, a complaint was promptly filed.
Yet, our investigation didn’t stop there. We took a closer look at the SEBI RA himself, Suresh Shriram Sharma, to see if there might be a deeper connection. Alarmingly, we found significant compliance breaches on his part as well.
Sharma’s website openly advertised profit-sharing schemes, assured returns, illegal Portfolio Management Services (PMS), and showcased past performances to attract investors – practices that blatantly violate SEBI’s strict regulations for registered analysts. These findings led to the filing of four separate complaints against him with SEBI.
While there’s no direct evidence of an official partnership between Himansh and Sharma, the case has raised serious suspicions. SEBI now has the task of investigating whether the two were colluding to profit from unsuspecting investors.
This case is strikingly similar to a previous SEBI investigation involving SEBI Investment Advisor Neha Goel and unregistered violator Meenu Gupta.
In that instance, SEBI ordered Gupta to refund ₹58 lakh to clients and imposed an additional fine of ₹11 lakh, while Neha Goel faced a one-year suspension due to her unlawful collaboration.
What will happen to Himansh and Suresh Shriram Sharma? With complaints filed, SEBI's review will determine the outcome. The crackdown on such violators is essential to protecting investors and maintaining trust in financial markets.
Stay tuned as we follow this unfolding story and SEBI’s actions against these potential offenders.
