Lindy was found murdered inside her Manor Township apartment on December 5, 1975, shortly after returning home from buying groceries. Investigators preserved biological evidence from the crime scene, but the forensic technology of the time could not identify the man responsible. Even after a male DNA profile was developed in 1997 and entered into CODIS in 2000, there was no match. Decades later, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Cold Case Unit turned to Parabon NanoLabs and forensic genetic genealogist CeCe Moore. Genealogy research eventually identified David Sinopoli as a possible person of interest. The breakthrough became even more significant when investigators discovered that Sinopoli had once lived in the same small apartment building as Lindy and her husband. But investigators still needed direct DNA evidence. In February 2022, detectives followed Sinopoli through Philadelphia International Airport, recovered a discarded coffee cup he had used, and submitted it for DNA testing. The resulting profile was compared with DNA preserved from Lindy’s case, producing an extraordinarily strong statistical match. Additional DNA testing of blood evidence further strengthened the case. He was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison, effectively a life sentence given his age.
