Here's one that the Carter Family reworked from a schmaltzy 1919 pop hit into the version that most bluegrass folks play. Mine is inspired by the Kentucky Colonels' Live in Sweden recording from 1973 featuring my main guitar hero Clarence White, whose solo entrance I outright steal here. Because hey, if you're gonna steal, steal from the best! I don't think I've ever performed this one outside of an informal jam session but it seems to lend itself well enough to the Lonesome Fridays ethos.
This weekend I'm heading out for three shows with Tony Trischka's Earl Jam. We're hitting Easton, MD on Friday, Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday, and Sparks Glencoe, MD on Sunday. They'll be my last shows for a bit, until Jacob Jolliff and I play Brooklyn's fabulous Jalopy Theatre on Dec. 14.
Other than that I'm hard at work finishing up the next EP on my own label, Wild Geranium Records, which I'm hoping to have out by December. It's a full band recording featuring Jolliff, Alex Hargreaves and other great collaborators. Can't wait to make an announcement soon -- stay tuned!
