God's Greatest Gift to Us | Lamentations 5

What if the greatest thing God wants to give you isn’t a changed situation, but it is more of Him? We spend a lot of our lives asking God to restore what we’ve lost. Restore the relationship. Restore my health. Restore the opportunity. Restore my joy. Restore the life I used to have. Those aren’t bad prayers. But as we finish our journey through Lamentations, we discover a deeper prayer: “Restore us to yourself, Lord, that we may return.” — Lamentations 5:21 After five chapters of pain, loss, waiting, consequences, and unanswered questions, God’s people finally realize that their greatest loss wasn’t their city, their possessions, or even their old way of life. Their greatest loss was closeness with God. Lamentations doesn’t end with everything fixed. The circumstances haven’t suddenly changed. But their hearts have. Maybe the prayer isn’t simply, “God, get me out of this.” Maybe it’s, “God, don’t let me go through this without becoming closer to You.” Because God’s greatest gift isn’t a better life. God’s greatest gift is His presence.
