Itanagar, October 27: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) and the detention of youths in connection with the protests, representatives of CJP, Youth for Change, and the Siang Indigenous Forum have appealed to the state government to release all detained individuals within seven days and initiate dialogue with the concerned stakeholders. The representatives urged the government to invite stakeholders for discussions and address the concerns of the indigenous people, stressing that the issue should be resolved through dialogue rather than force. They also appealed to the government not to jeopardise the future of students over their participation in the movement, questioning the need for heavy security deployment in the region. As a mark of solidarity with the detained youths, the groups have announced a peaceful rally on October 29, calling upon people from across Arunachal Pradesh to join the movement. Participants are expected to gather at Akashdeep between 9 AM and 10 AM, with the rally scheduled to begin at 11 AM and proceed towards IG Park. The organisers have firmly appealed to participants to maintain peace and refrain from violence during the rally. They emphasised that the movement is not limited to the people of Siang but concerns the wider indigenous community of Arunachal Pradesh, urging the government to engage in meaningful negotiations and release the detained youths within the stipulated seven-day period. #arunachalpradesh #siangriver #sump #hydropowerproject #cjp #sianguppermultipurposeproject #watch
