Famous Malaysian KAARA SAARAM Claypot Restaurant Is Now in Singapore! | Tamil Food Explorer Ep.116

Tamil Food Explorer Ep.116 takes me to a brand-new restaurant opening in Singapore! This time, I was invited to the opening ceremony of Kaara Saaram Claypot Restaurant at 79 Dunlop Street, Singapore, bringing its Malaysian-style claypot concept and huge menu of South Indian and Malaysian Indian dishes to Little India. Kaara Saaram is particularly known for its Claypot Sattisoru and Thiruvizha Sapadu, so obviously I had to try both. But here's the surprise... The dish that impressed me the MOST wasn't even the one I came here expecting to be my favourite. For this episode, I tried five different dishes: Claypot Sattisoru – Chicken + Mutton Thiruvizha Sapadu Mutton Shellout Kam Heong Kizhi Parotta Sotong Kizhi Ghee Rice Fish We started with one of the dishes Kaara Saaram is best known for — Claypot Sattisoru. I went for the mixed Chicken + Mutton version, combining both meats with the rice and masala inside the claypot. If you've never had Sattisoru before, this is exactly the kind of hearty Tamil comfort food that looks simple until you start mixing everything together and getting all those flavours into the rice. Kaara Saaram's Singapore menu actually has an extensive Claypot Sattisoru selection, including Chicken, Mutton, Mutton Dalcha, Prawn, Sotong, Fish, Kampung Chicken and several mixed combinations. Next was another dish they're known for — Thiruvizha Sapadu Mutton. “Thiruvizha Sapadu” immediately gives you that Tamil festival-feast feeling, and Kaara Saaram has built an entire section of its menu around it. The Singapore menu includes Chicken, Kampung Chicken, Mutton, Mutton Dalcha, Sotong, Prawn, Crab and Nalli versions. But then came my biggest surprise of the entire meal - Shellout Kam Heong. This was absolutely fantastic. In fact, this was easily my favourite dish of the day. The seafood was one thing, but what really made this dish stand out for me was that Kam Heong flavour. Bold, aromatic and packed with flavour — this was the dish I kept wanting to go back to. I came to Kaara Saaram knowing about their famous Sattisoru and Thiruvizha Sapadu. But somehow the Kam Heong Shellout stole the show! And that's one of the things I found interesting about the Kaara Saaram menu. It isn't restricted to just traditional South Indian dishes. You also find Malaysian influences throughout the menu, including Shellout dishes in Kam Heong, Dry Chilli and Kaara Saaram Masala variations. Next up was the Kizhi Parotta Sotong. Another superb dish. The flavours worked really well together, and wrapping the parotta together with the sotong and masala gives you another completely different experience from the claypot dishes. If you're someone who loves parotta and strong masala flavours, this is definitely one of the dishes from this meal that caught my attention. Finally, I tried the Kizhi Ghee Rice Fish. The ghee rice itself was tasty and aromatic, and I enjoyed it. However, I felt that the fish masala was fairly average compared with some of the stronger dishes I had during this meal. And that's especially noticeable when you're eating it alongside something as flavour-packed as the Kam Heong Shellout. You'll have to watch Tamil Food Explorer Ep.116 for my full experience.
