Stay Wild — Leave It Wild (Official Audio) | Henry B. Colter

Henry B. Colter — "Stay Wild" (Official Video) From the album Montana Knows My Name (Continental Divide Records). Track six. The song takes an inventory of what the country has already taken — a friend named Jack, gone in September; a magpie that stole the wedding cake topper and came back for more; a horse named Whiskey who thought rivers were his to cross and came out half a mile downstream, both colder than a grave. Then it turns to the last verse and asks for room instead of revenge: leave the grizzly in the mountain, the eagle in the pine, give the river room to bend, leave the wood standing. It is not about getting the country back. It is about learning what is worth leaving alone. Recorded plain: wood, wire, breath, and the sound of the room. Filmed in the real West — a wire fence line with a pair of hands on it, an aspen grove in pale sage light, spruce against a near-black green sky, and a valley floor running flat between the ridges.
