Two bottles reached the crime lab's print examiner in the Faith Hedgepeth murder trial. One gave her nothing usable. The other did, before a single test.
This is the Faith Hedgepeth murder trial in Durham County. Faith, a 19-year-old UNC student, was found in her Chapel Hill apartment in September 2012. Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares is presumed innocent of the charges. The State's print expert teaches the jury her method, then turns to the bottles.
It opens with the jury out: the State raises jail calls it plans to introduce, and the defense says it can't stipulate. Nothing is decided.
Weigh this. She says no number decides when a print is of value, and that her own work could transfer DNA. The Bacardi bottle had no identifiable prints. The blue wine bottle showed one identifiable palm print before any processing. Whose? The Part ends at the break with her still on direct, and no cross yet.
