In this episode of Outdoor Micro Adventures, we take to the water to explore the fascinating history and hidden secrets of Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
We kick off our journey by boat, sharing the unique history behind the creation of Fontana Lake and the communities that were flooded beneath it. Next, we pull up to the banks of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) to grill up some epic shoreline steak fajitas over an open fire.
With full bellies, we navigate over to the remote Hazel Creek trailhead—an area completely cut off by road. From there, we hike deep into the woods to tour the remnants and ruins of Proctor, North Carolina, a once-thriving logging town that became an isolated ghost town when the dam was built.
If you love Appalachian history, boat-in camping, backcountry hiking, and outdoor cooking, this micro-adventure is for you! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more outdoor micro-adventures!
