Rudy Rotta – Blues Italia | The Diabolical Guitarist Who Conquered the World

Rudy Rotta – Blues Italia Recorded in concert by Blues Archive in 1999 during his first-ever visit to Oxford, England, this performance captures Rodolfo “Rudy” Rotta — one of Italy’s most celebrated blues guitarists — delivering his unmistakable blend of blues spiced with funk and soul. About the Artist Born on October 14, 1950, in Villadossola, Italy, Rudy Rotta grew up in Lucerne, Switzerland, after his family emigrated there. He began playing guitar and performing professionally in Switzerland at just fourteen years old, before eventually returning to Italy and settling in Verona, where he founded the Rudy Rotta Band. Known across the world blues circuit as “the diabolical Italian guitarist,” Rotta built a reputation on his aggressive yet disciplined playing style, remarkable speed on the fretboard, and distinctive scratchy voice — a combination that earned him collaborations and shared stages with some of blues’ biggest names, including B.B. King, John Mayall, the Allman Brothers, Etta James, Carey Bell, Brian Auger, Robben Ford, and Peter Green. He performed at legendary venues and festivals across the globe, from the House of Blues in New Orleans to the Montreux Jazz Festival, and in 2003 played for an audience of 800,000 at Rome’s historic May Day Festival. His achievements were further recognized when Fender Europe honored him with his own signature Stratocaster model — a rare distinction placing him among the world’s most celebrated guitarists. Rotta continued recording and performing until his death on July 3, 2017, in Verona, leaving behind a catalog of albums and a legacy as one of Europe’s most respected blues artists. About This Performance Blues Italia captures Rotta at his electrifying best — blistering guitar runs, a voice full of grit and character, and the kind of commanding stage presence that made him a favorite on blues stages worldwide. It’s a vivid document of an artist who brought his own distinctly Italian energy to a deeply American art form. Perfect for fans of: Italian blues, European blues rock, blues guitar virtuosos, B.B.
