During his 1964 Messenger Lectures at Cornell University, physicist Richard Feynman stated that nobody understands quantum mechanics. Rather than declaring the field impossible to learn, Feynman emphasized that while its mathematical formulas yield unmatched experimental precision, subatomic behavior directly contradicts ordinary human intuition. Experiments like the double slit demonstrate that particles produce wave interference patterns until detectors observe them, altering the outcome. Feynman developed quantum electrodynamics using rotating arrows to accurately predict partial reflections through glass without mechanical analogies. Accepting nature's bizarre behavior allows science to embrace reality as it actually exists.
