Fall Asleep To The Hidden Lore Of Ba Sing Se

This sleep story explores the hidden lore of Ba Sing Se, the walled Earth Kingdom capital in Avatar: The Last Airbender, from the meaning of its name to its walls, rings and secret police. The video moves through Ba Sing Se in layers. It starts with the city's name and its Outer Wall, then follows Team Avatar through the Serpent's Pass, the Fire Nation drill, and Joo Dee's tour of the rings. It draws on DVD commentary from creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the Avatar Extras, and the Avatar Wiki to explain how the city was designed and why it hides the war. What's covered in this video General Sung's "Na Sing Se" joke in The Drill, his misuse of the word expunged, and the Chinese characters Yong Gu Cheng, meaning eternally solid city. Why the Outer Wall is 600 feet tall, a choice inspired by the creators' research trip to the Great Wall of China. The Agrarian Zone, Lake Laogai, the Inner Wall, and Earth King Yi Ming's claim that crossing the city takes two days on foot. How a map doodle became The Serpent's Pass, along with the "sever hope" carving, Full Moon Bay, and the birth of baby Hope to Ying and Than. The drill designed by the Mechanist, Azula's attack, Sokka coining the name Team Avatar, and the first mention of metalbending. The theatrical premieres of The Drill sponsored by Upper Deck, its 4.1 million viewers, and its Annie Award for director Giancarlo Volpe. Joo Dee's smile, modeled on line producer Miken Wong, and an Invader Zim tribute on the monorail. The Lower, Middle and Upper Rings as a class system built into the architecture and roof colors by Elsa Garagarza and Hye-Jung Kim. The palace gate, based on the Meridian Gate of Beijing's Forbidden City, and the house where Toph's booger stays on the ceiling.
