ACR | 0.6 | Audi Quattro - Alsace - Steingenbach - First drive | TV Replay | 4K

My first drive in Assetto Corsa Rally since the v0.6 update, and there was really only one car I wanted to take out first the legendary 1980 Audi Quattro. For the first test I headed to Alsace Steingenbach, jumped into the Quattro and simply started discovering what this iconic piece of rally history feels like in ACR 0.6. And my first impression? It drives like a boat and I actually like it. 😄 🔥 Audi Quattro - Proper Old-School Rallying Coming from modern rally machinery, the Quattro immediately requires a completely different driving style. The first thing I noticed was just how nose-heavy the car feels. You can't simply throw it into a corner and expect it to react like a modern Rally2 or WRC car. The suspension movement also contributes massively to the experience. There is plenty of weight transfer, the car moves around underneath you and you need to anticipate what it's going to do rather than simply react at the last moment. It genuinely feels like you're trying to guide a boat through the stage at times. But for a car representing rally technology from this era, that's part of what makes it interesting. 🔄 Forget the Handbrake - Bring Out the Scandinavian Flick I quickly found that I needed to change my usual approach to tighter corners. Instead of relying on the handbrake to rotate the car, the Scandinavian flick became a much more useful tool. Get the weight moving before the corner, use that transfer to help rotate the heavy front end and then get back onto the throttle. When you get the sequence right, the Quattro suddenly starts making much more sense. It's not about precision in the same way as a modern rally car. For me, it feels much more about understanding the weight of the car and preparing it for the corner before you actually arrive there. 🛑 Braking Requires Planning Braking was another immediate adjustment. Compared with the modern rally cars I've been driving, the Quattro's braking performance feels pretty poor, so braking points need to move considerably earlier. Combined with the nose-heavy balance and soft-feeling suspension movement, simply arriving too quickly at a corner can leave you with very few options. You need to plan ahead. Brake early, manage the weight transfer, get the car rotating and then use the Quattro system to pull yourself through and out of the corner. It definitely took some adjustment during this first drive. ❤️ And That's Why I Like It The funny thing is that almost everything I've described could sound like criticism: Nose heavy. Boat-like suspension. Poor braking. Needs plenty of preparation before corners. But that's exactly why I enjoyed driving it. At least from this first run, the Audi Quattro gives me the impression of driving something from a completely different technological era rather than simply another rally car with different performance numbers. It forces me to adapt my driving. And that's exactly what I want from a historic rally car. 🏁 Conclusion This wasn't about setting a perfect time or chasing a leaderboard position. It was simply my first opportunity to experience ACR v0.6, and taking the Audi Quattro through Steingenbach seemed like the perfect way to do it. The Quattro definitely requires some recalibration of the driver. It feels heavy at the front, the suspension makes it move around like a boat, braking needs to happen much earlier and tight corners require proper preparation and weight transfer. But I like that. Instead of immediately feeling comfortable, I had to start learning what the car wanted from me. Using techniques like the Scandinavian flick and working with the weight transfer rather than fighting it makes the whole experience much more interesting. These are only my first impressions from my first v0.6 drive, so I'll need much more time with the update and the car before making any broader conclusions. But as a first taste?
