Solo. Alpine. Thunderstorm. Then snow. Gephan Lake (also spelled Ghepan) in a single 24-hour push: 40 km, 4200 m, no partner, no backup. The day before, I'd finished the Deo Tibba push. My legs hadn't forgotten it. I started this one already tired, alone, in the high country of Lahaul, on a route most people take their time over across several days. The morning was quiet. Then the weather turned. A thunderstorm rolled in over the alpine terrain, the kind where the sky darkens fast and there's nowhere to hide on an exposed ridge. As I climbed higher, the rain gave way to snow, and the whole day changed. Every step was a decision between pushing on and turning back. This video is about exactly that: what it's like to be alone with fatigue, weather and altitude, and to keep moving anyway. In this video: A solo 40 km speed hike to Gephan Lake in 24 hours Starting the day already fatigued from Deo Tibba A thunderstorm in the alpine zone, and when it turned to snow The moment I reached the lake The numbers Distance: 40 km Time: 24 hours Elevation: 4200 m Route: Manali→ Gephan Lake → Manali Date/season: June 2026 Watch the Deo Tibba video (the day before) A solo hike at altitude in a thunderstorm is genuinely dangerous. Lightning, cold and snow can turn serious quickly, and I was carrying real risk that day. Please don't treat this video as a guide. Go with a partner, tell someone your plan, and turn back when conditions say so.
