Part 2 of 2. The descent from Parang La into Ladakh, and the day a river nearly ended my solo traverse. Part 1 ended at the top of the pass. This part follows me down from the pass, across Ladakh's side, all the way to Tso Moriri at Karzok, in the rain, with my food going bad and swollen rivers in the way. Part 2 of 2. The final stretch of my solo Parang La traverse, and the day a river nearly ended it. If you're starting here: I crossed from Spiti towards Ladakh alone, over a 5700 m pass, in 4 days and 3 nights with no tent and only a tarp, and with no acclimatisation. It had rained every night and snowed on the high ground, and I woke up to snow-covered peaks every morning. Part 1 covers how it began. By now my food had gone bad, and I was surviving on peanut butter and biscuits. On the last day, the non-stop rain had pushed the Parechu river (also spelled Pare Chu) far above its normal level, and I had to cross it. It swept me off my feet. That moment is the heart of this video. Hours later I reached Tso Moriri lake at Karzok, tired and drained. It was one of the most life-changing experiences I've ever had. In this video: Food going bad and surviving on peanut butter and biscuits Non-stop rain and a swollen Parechu river Being swept away on the last day Reaching Tso Moriri at Karzok THE NUMBERS Route: Chichim (Spiti) to Parang La to Tso Moriri, Karzok (Ladakh) Distance: 110 km Pass: 5700 m Duration: 4 days, 3 nights Style: solo, no tent, tarp only Date August 2026 PLEASE READ This is not a guide and not something to copy. I was swept away by a river and I'm here as much through luck as through anything I did. Swollen rivers after heavy rain are one of the biggest dangers on this route. Go with a partner, check river levels, carry real shelter and enough food, and turn back when conditions say so.
