GERMAN CHANCELLOR MERZ IN S. KOREA

李대통령, 오늘 메르츠 독일 총리와 정상회담 Hello and welcome. You're watching Press Perspective for this Thursday October 29th here in Seoul. I'm Min Sun-hee. President Lee Jae Myung is playing host to his German counterpart Friedrich Merz at the Blue House as we speak. For more on their latest summit and bilateral ties I have Fabian Kretschmer with German Press Agency dpa. Fabian it's good to have you here. I also have Thomas Maresca with American news agency UPI. Thomas welcome back. 1) Fabian, Chancellor Merz has called for closer ties between Europe and Asia. What is Germany hoping to achieve from today’s meeting with President Lee? 2) Thomas, beyond diplomatic symbolism, what would make this summit a real success for South Korea? 3) Fabian, South Korea and Germany are major industrial economies. Where could closer cooperation make the biggest difference? 4) Thomas, with US-China tensions reshaping global trade, how much room do Seoul and Berlin have to protect their economic interests together? 5) Fabian, defense cooperation is on the agenda. What can South Korea offer Germany, and what might Germany bring to the partnership? 6) Thomas, as both countries rethink their security and supply chains, could this relationship become more strategically important than ever especially keeping in mind concerns about Trump's commitments to U.S. alliances? 7) Fabian, Merz wants European and Asian partners to work more closely together. Could South Korea and Germany help shape a new approach to global trade and security? 8) Thomas, both countries know what national division means. Does Germany’s experience give Berlin a distinctive role in discussions about peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula? All right. On that note we end Press Perspective today.
