Gelsenkirchen Bank Heist: Why Victims Get Only €10,300 a Box

Two days after Christmas 2025, a fire alarm went off inside a Sparkasse savings bank in Gelsenkirchen-Buer, Germany. Police and firefighters checked the building, found nothing, and left. Less than 48 hours later, the alarm went off again. Behind a hole drilled through the vault wall, more than 3,000 safe-deposit boxes had been broken open.
