Chronic inflammatory enteropathy (CIE) is a common but often challenging condition in first-opinion veterinary practice. In this practical, evidence-based session, Lucy Williams BVSc MRCVS explores current approaches to the classification, diagnosis, management and monitoring of CIE in dogs and cats.
The talk covers evolving treatment-response classifications, the place of protein-losing enteropathy, and how diagnostic pathways can be adapted to the individual patient. Clinical examples are used to explore how factors such as presenting signs, owner preferences, finances and patient needs influence real-world decision-making.
Lucy also discusses traditional and emerging approaches to assessing gastrointestinal inflammation, including non-invasive faecal biomarkers such as calprotectin and GIQuest®, and considers how these can complement existing diagnostics, treatment trials and monitoring strategies.
