Making Fantasies Come True: One Story at a Time… and boy, this month has been a reading month.
Recently I have finished two fiction reads. One is called “The Stolen Kingdom” by Bethany Atazadeh, this is a YA Fantasy Aladdin Retelling. I will be completely honest, this book is not one of my favorites, and I am not entirely sure why. I enjoyed the story and world building… but then again there were some elements of the world building that I was not the biggest fan of. Now this is just my opinion, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the slang, and I believe the Persian influence. For some reason, I feel as if that took me out of the story. But then again, I understood the reason because it is an Aladdin retelling, but this Persian influence just took me out of the story. But really the story was great. I loved the twist on how the princess is wanting to save herself and her kingdom and wanting to do it on her own. I also love how it is not your classic ending with the happily ever after… which is a nice twist for traditional princess stories.
But because of the previous comment on the Persian influence on the words, I don’t think I will continue on with this series, but I am interested in checking out Bethany’s latest novel called “Liar in the Hollow Court.” I don’t know much about it other than what Bethany has talked about on her YouTube channel and the book description, so I am excited to read it. I just need to get some money to buy the books.
The other book I finished is called “Real, Not Perfect,” by Stephanie Coleman, this is a YA Christian Fiction Novel that deals with a lot of peer pressure. I really enjoyed this book. I have previously read it before and wanted to keep it on my shelf, and I was in the mood for a contemporary book that would make me cry. And this book delivered exactly that. I cried and felt my emotions during my birthday week, and it was such a nice release from my suppressed emotions.
After reading “Real, Not Perfect,” I will definitely want to continue on with this series called Riverbend Friends. It is an interconnected series where the story follows four friends in four books and then Books 5-8, the series follows the same characters just in a different place in their life. I think that is a very interesting way to portray this story and each character’s story is written by a different author… This sounds very interesting. So, I am highly intriguing
Those are the two books that I have recently finished reading this last week and if you have done some reading this week, then leave a pair of glasses emoji and tell me about the books you have finished. I also have links to the books I read and also my next read called “As Old as Time” by Liz Braswell which is a Beauty and Beast Retelling. I hope you all have a great day and remember to keep making fantasies come true, one story at a time, and I will see you next time… Bye.
