Join me as I explore Birdworld, the UK's largest bird park, located near Farnham on the Surrey and Hampshire border. Set across 18 acres of landscaped gardens, Birdworld is home to over 180 species of birds from around the world, making it a fascinating destination for wildlife enthusiasts, bird lovers and anyone interested in discovering the diversity of the natural world. From critically endangered species and colourful tropical birds to penguins, flamingos, owls and fascinating waterbirds, Birdworld offers an impressive collection of avian wildlife. Among the highlights are the critically endangered Bali myna, magnificent toucans, colourful parrots, impressive emus and a variety of rare and unusual bird species. During our visit, we'll explore some of Birdworld's most distinctive exhibits and immersive habitats, including Penguin Island, home to Humboldt penguins, and Penguin Beach, where we encounter the critically endangered African penguin. We'll also discover the fascinating world of owls at the Owl Academy, meet a variety of colourful species in Love + Colour, and explore the park's impressive collection of parrots and cockatoos. Other highlights include the newly opened Flamboyant Flamingos and Wetland Waders walkthrough habitats, both introduced in 2025. These mixed-species environments offer a closer look at flamingos and other fascinating birds associated with wetlands and waterways. Conservation is an important part of Birdworld's work, with the park supporting breeding programmes, scientific research and projects dedicated to protecting threatened bird species and their natural habitats. The Birdworld Conservation Fund has supported conservation initiatives in the UK and overseas, helping to fund habitat preservation, captive breeding, research, education and partnerships with wildlife organisations. Among the species benefiting from these efforts is the pink pigeon, a rare forest bird native to Mauritius. Once reduced to just 10 individuals in the wild in 1991, the species has benefited from dedicated captive breeding programmes. Birdworld has successfully bred several chicks, helping to safeguard its future and support hopes of eventual releases into its native forests. Birdworld also supports the conservation of African penguins, including research at Stellenbosch University investigating the potential effects of biting insects on penguin chicks. The park's wider conservation work highlights the important role that zoological collections can play in protecting endangered species, supporting scientific research and raising awareness of the challenges facing wildlife around the world. Filmed in 4K, this visit features detailed wildlife footage, natural surroundings and carefully researched captions, with no voiceover or traditional narration.
