Fretwork on a 12" Clawhammer Banjo – Precision Matters Fretwork is one of the most important stages in building a banjo. It may look like a small detail, but the precision of every single fret has a direct influence on how the instrument plays, sounds and feels. On this 12" open-back clawhammer banjo, every fret must be carefully positioned, accurately fitted and perfectly levelled. There is very little room for error. A fraction of a millimetre can make the difference between a fretboard that feels effortless and one that never quite plays as it should. Good fretwork is not about simply putting frets into a fingerboard. It is about patience, accuracy and understanding how the instrument will respond under the player's hands.
