This is Iran street food on a scale I wasn’t ready for. In this 160-minute Iran food documentary, we eat our way through Tehran’s historic bazaars, mountain neighborhoods, traditional bakeries, tiny local kitchens, famous dessert shops, and unforgettable street-food businesses.
Tehran doesn’t have just one food story—it has hundreds.
From gheymeh and ghormeh sabzi served from carts inside Tehran’s Grand Bazaar to sizzling jigar, massive batches of Jaghool Baghool, sirabi, fresh sangak bread, kaleh pacheh, Persian ice cream, and Shirazi faloodeh, this is far more than a typical Tehran food tour.
The journey begins with Darren, an Irishman working toward opening his own restaurant in Tehran. After discovering one of the city’s trending ice creams, we head into the mountains for a traditional Persian breakfast and experience the incredible weekend atmosphere of Darakeh.
Inside the Grand Bazaar, we find authentic Iranian food being served directly from street carts. We try traditional stews, colorful homemade sharbat, local snacks, and dishes usually associated with family kitchens—now prepared in the middle of one of Tehran’s busiest markets.
As the city changes from day to night, we explore local neighborhoods, visit an incredibly busy jigar shop in a small village, and watch Jaghool Baghool being cooked in enormous quantities for a nonstop crowd.
This full Iran street food journey includes:
• Traditional Persian breakfast in Darakeh
• Gheymeh and ghormeh sabzi in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar
• Jigar and large-scale Jaghool Baghool
• Ab Doogh Khiar, Iran’s refreshing summer dish
• Sirabi and authentic kaleh pacheh
• Freshly baked sangak and barbari bread
• Ali Baba Vitamineh and its unforgettable majoon show
• Haj Safar’s legendary ice cream shop with over 80 years of history
• A behind-the-scenes look at Shirazi faloodeh
• Darband’s mountain food, culture, and nightlife
• One of Tehran’s busiest juice bars near Tochal
But this documentary isn’t only about food.
We explore Parvaneh Friday Market, walk through everyday Tehran, visit a museum filled with rare luxury classic cars, meet respected painter and artist Shahidi Amoli, and experience the energy of the city through its markets, streets, neighborhoods, and people.
One of the most powerful parts of the journey introduces Tehran’s women street-food entrepreneurs.
We meet women who have transformed their cooking skills into independent businesses. We try Rezvan’s pasta, Masoumeh’s homemade kotlet, freshly fried sambouseh, spicy bandari made by twin sisters, saj kebab, falafel, adasi, omelets, kookoo sabzi, kookoo sibzamini, ash, hot dogs, and a creative chocolate, banana, and strawberry dessert.
Behind every food cart is a real story—of risk, hard work, family, ambition, and the determination to keep going.
The woman featured in the thumbnail is one part of this much larger journey through Tehran’s constantly evolving street-food culture.
