When should you ask for a college recommendation letter, and how do you ask so the letter comes out strong?
By the end of this video you will know the ideal window to ask, exactly what to say, and what to hand your teacher so they can write a specific, powerful letter.
Your teachers don't owe you a letter. The best teachers get asked first, and they fill up first. This week we cover when to ask, how to ask, the brag sheet that gives a teacher everything they need, and the story of Trevor, who kept meaning to ask his favorite teacher and waited until December.
In this episode:
→ Recommenders are amplifiers: they make what's true about you easier to hear
→ When to ask: the ideal window and the latest safe date
→ Trevor's story: the December ask
→ How to ask, and what goes on a brag sheet
→ What you do this week
This is Week 22 of the free 24-week Stressed Out 2 Stand Out series (with bonus lessons during the waiting period!). One lesson a week. Every Sunday. Completely free.

THIS WEEK'S ACTION STEPS
1. If you haven't asked your recommenders yet, ask this week. In person is best; a short, direct email works too.
2. If they've already said yes, send your brag sheet by Friday: your colleges and deadlines, your intended major, and three to five specific moments you'd love them to mention.
3. After the letter is in and the deadline has passed, send a handwritten thank-you note.
