Father Ephram Alhaj reflects on Christ’s command to “love your enemies” and the difference between self-centred love and the self-giving love that saves. Drawing on the Orthodox marriage service and the words “O holy martyrs,” he explains that Christian love is not merely affection or mutual benefit, but a free decision to serve, forgive, and remain faithful to the other—through health and illness, poverty and abundance. We cannot produce this love by force. But when we choose to act with love and ask God for His grace, the Holy Spirit transforms our fleshly hearts into spiritual hearts. يتأمل الأب إفرام الحاج في وصية المسيح: «أحبوا أعداءكم»، وفي الفرق بين المحبة الأنانية والمحبة الباذلة التي تخلّص. ومن خلال سرّ الزواج الأرثوذكسي وترتيلة «أيها الشهداء القديسون»، يشرح أن المحبة المسيحية ليست مجرد عاطفة أو منفعة متبادلة، بل هي قرار حرّ بأن نخدم ونغفر ونبقى أمناء للآخر—في الصحة والمرض، في الفقر والغنى. لا نستطيع أن ننتج هذه المحبة بالقوة. لكن عندما نختار أن نعامل الآخرين بمحبة ونطلب نعمة الله، يحوّل الروح القدس قلوبنا الجسدية إلى قلوب روحية.
