Matayen to Leh : Drass, Kargil & Fotu La - Elevation of 13,478 ft | Umling La 2023

DAY 6 — PART 1 of our 18-day Royal Enfield Himalayan expedition to Hanle and Umling La. We leave Matayen and ride continuously toward Leh, crossing some of the most spectacular roads and landscapes of Ladakh. This part of the journey takes us through Drass, Kargil and the breathtaking Kargil–Khangral highway before climbing to Fotu La at 13,478 ft. The ride ends at Saspul with a much-needed tea break. 🏍️ DAY 6 — PART 1 MATAYEN → SASPUL The journey begins in Matayen as we continue deeper into Ladakh. ❄️ DRASS We pass through Drass, famously known as the second-coldest inhabited place in the world. 🏔️ KARGIL After Drass, we continue toward Kargil and stop for breakfast at Shimsha, Ladakh. From Kargil, the ride becomes one of the highlights of the day. 🔥 KARGIL → KHANGRAL This stretch of highway is absolutely spectacular — huge mountain landscapes, winding roads and some of the most beautiful riding scenery of the expedition. ⛰️ FOTU LA — 13,478 FT We climb to Fotu La, one of the major high-altitude passes on the Srinagar–Leh highway. At 4,108 metres (13,478 ft), Fotu La is the highest point on the Srinagar–Leh highway. ☕ SASPOL / SASPUL Part 1 ends at Saspul with a tea break before we continue toward Leh. And this is only HALF of Day 6.
