THE WATER is Chapter 30 in the Wax and Fire story. After “The Old Man Dies,” the protagonist is out of the hole, back in the dorm, and learning what it means to actually walk as a new man. He has seen grace. He has faced shame. He has watched the old man lose his claim. But now comes obedience. This chapter follows him toward baptism — not as a show, not as a performance, not as religion for the room — but as a public answer to what Christ has already done inside him. The water becomes a line in the story. The old life goes under. The new man comes up breathing.
