Ancient Weaving | Episode 8 I arrive at Changsheng Street in Qiliping Town, Hong’an County, Hubei, to explore this 300-year-old revolutionary ancient town.“Little Huang’an, every man a hero.” This famed hometown of generals features old shops standing closely alongside revolutionary sites. Descendants of martyrs have guarded this ancient street for generations, preserving its profound red memories. Wandering through the alleys, I seek out local intangible heritage craftsmen. At the Hong’an Dabu inheritance base, I meet Master Huang, who has upheld hand-weaving techniques for over 50 years. Seventy-two handmade procedures shape the iconic Red Army cloth, keeping the ancient craft alive from generation to generation. I also visit wood carving inheritor Master Liu, witnessing traditional craftsmanship embrace new vitality. The clatter of looms, exquisite wood carvings, paper-cutting art, shadow puppetry and earthly fireworks fill the old street. Changsheng Street embodies half of Hong’an’s history.It bears profound revolutionary memories, persistent craftsman ingenuity, and the simple, warm daily life of local residents.
