Is OpenAI going bankrupt? Is the AI bubble about to burst? Follow the money.
OpenAI's CEO put its computing bill at about $1.4 trillion over eight years. Its revenue last year: about $13 billion. So who covers the gap?
We answer three questions with SEC filings and company statements: who has already been paid, who lent the money, and who is left holding the bill if OpenAI can't pay. Microsoft's share of OpenAI's 2025 costs, Amazon and Nvidia on both sides of the table, AMD's shares for a customer, Oracle's leases and bonds, the Michigan bonds bought by Pimco funds, SoftBank's borrowing, CoreWeave's debt, and the filing in which Nvidia guaranteed leases for an OpenAI affiliate, up to $105 billion for its initial commitment. OpenAI itself has borrowed relatively little: most of the borrowing sits with its partners. Each company's public response is in the video, in its own words.
Also available with a Portuguese audio track.
