Judy Church told police her boyfriend, Leroy Fowler, didn't drink anything the morning he collapsed. Across two recorded police interviews, her story changed seven times — and detectives already knew about the antifreeze.
On November 11, 2022 — Leroy Fowler's 55th birthday — Judy Church, a retired fourth-grade teacher from Salisbury, Massachusetts, called 911 and said her boyfriend "must have ingested something." Two days later he was dead. The cause: ethylene glycol poisoning, the main ingredient in antifreeze. We play her body camera interview from November 12 and her full police station interview from November 14 as they were shown at trial, and count every change: the drugs, what he drank, the orange soda, the water, the cause, the fingerprints, and what was under her sink. Then the search: a jug of de-icing fluid in the kitchen and a Powerade bottle with her DNA on the mouth.
On March 30, 2026, a jury in Essex County Superior Court found Judy Church guilty of first-degree murder. On April 2, 2026, Judge James Lang sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Her lawyers have said they will appeal.
