Meall Dearg A Glencoe Munro in Winter OR How to get on Aonach Eagach without any Scrambling Jan 2021

Another nice day, and another trip out in my very local area. I thought Meall Dearg in Glencoe is a good bet during this Lockdown... It is the Munro in the middle of Aonach Eagach, a famous mountaineering route in Scotland. This Munro is usually ascended as part of a traverse, but it can also be summited from the North side, with any scrambling at all which leads yuo to one of the best views in Scotland... From close up to The 3 Sisters, to Ben Nevis and Schiehallion far away!!! The birth place of modern map making Starting from Kinlochleven's High Road, it is a fairly straight forward ascent. I took 3 hours to ascend, and 1.5 hours back down. The deep snow made it laborious going up but a delight coming down. Everything was frozen solid, except the snow. Navigation is quite simple too.. A good steady path/track (None of which are on any maps), across a wide flat saddle, and follow a distinct line of old fence posts to the summit. This is also a good escape route from the main ridge if reversing your route isn't possible, though it is likely that you will end up miles away from your transport.. Pre COVID times, you could of walked to Kinlochleven, a few pints and some nosh in a pub, then a bus back to Glencoe.
