Sgurr Eilde Mor A Mamores Munro Scotland Winter 2021 Lockdown Walk and Mountaineering

Keeping to the Scottish Lockdown Laws, I had a day out on a local Munro, Sgurr Eilde Mor in The Mamores. I left my house in Kinlochleven at 7am, and arrived on the summit at 10.33 am. Home at 1pm.Not too shabby :). I chose today to get out before the continuous snowfall arrives tomorrow, hiding all the great snow ice. I used the West Ridge to ascend the mountain. I like this route a lot. It has tons of scope to move around quite freely, making the way up easy or hard, it's your choice. Over all the difficulties or around them..' But I would not recommend this route for anyone less than very able and experienced with winter mountains and the use of axe and crampons. The run-outs (Length of a fall) are pretty immense, which is not very forgiving if there is any poor judgement in reading the conditions and personal ability. Winter Climbers will have zero problems, probably ;)... The route itself is often free of avalanche risk, though the approaches might be a different matter. I followed around the eastern edge of the Lochain, but this may not be an option if there is any risk of avalanche. The slope above is quite uniform in terrain (turf and scree), and at the right angle to release a substantial amount of snow if it's misjudged. I use this area often for winter skills training and winter wild camping trips with clients. So many choices in the immediate vicinity, and a tremendous place to explore :)
