Compassionate Science: Interview with Sofia Savinelli

Sofia Savinelli is a researcher at CHUV Lausanne (Lausanne University Hospital) working on empathy and compassion in palliative care research. Her work shows how prioritizing participants’ well-being, responding sensitively to vulnerability, and fostering reflexive team support can make research more inclusive and better reflect the experiences of people facing serious illness. This interview is part of the Swiss Young Academy’s Compassionate Science project, which seeks to foster a shift towards more empathetic and human-centered research practices. By highlighting and sharing examples from researchers who already integrate compassion into their work, the project aims to showcase best practices and inspire young researchers to reflect on the broader societal impact of their research.
