What’s it like to sail and explore the Falkland Islands? After almost 15 years living here, I bought a sailing boat to reach the remote islands, coastlines and wildlife that you simply can’t get to by road. The Falkland Islands are much bigger — and much harder to explore — than most people realise. Beyond Stanley and the road network are hundreds of miles of wild coastline, remote islands, empty beaches and some extraordinary wildlife. In this first film, I share a little of what it’s like to live in the Falklands and why I finally decided to buy my own sailing boat. For me, sailing opens up a completely different way to experience these islands: exploring remote anchorages, reaching places inaccessible by road or air, encountering penguins, seabirds and Striated Caracaras (Johnny Rooks), and heading off on adventures with my family. We’re still learning the boat and there’s an enormous amount of the Falklands we haven’t explored yet. This is just the beginning. Bearing South is about sailing, wildlife and outdoor adventure in the Falkland Islands — exploring remote places and sharing what life is like at the edge of the South Atlantic. If you enjoy sailing, boats, wildlife, remote islands, wilderness and outdoor adventure, subscribe and come along for the journey. #FalklandIslands #Sailing #OutdoorAdventure
