I ran up one hill and immediately learned things that walking had never shown me. My breathing. My knee. My shoes. My conditioning. Nothing was necessarily wrong while I was walking. Walking was comfortable. But the moment I increased the load, weaknesses became visible. And that got me thinking about stress differently. There are things you simply cannot know until a system gets tested. Engineers do this intentionally. They want to know: What can this handle? Where does it fail? What needs to be strengthened? What needs redundancy? Why don't we always think about our lives and businesses the same way? Stress can reveal things comfort hides. How do I respond when I'm tired? How do I treat people when I'm frustrated? What happens to my finances when something unexpected hits? What happens to the business if one critical person disappears? What happens if interest rates change? What happens if a partner changes direction? Does the plan only work when everything goes right? That made me think about the wise man and foolish man who built on rock and sand. Both houses can look fine in good weather. The storm reveals the foundation. So if you're in a stressful season, the first response doesn't always have to be: "How do I make this go away?" Another question might be: "What is this revealing?" Where am I not airtight? What needs to be strengthened? What did comfort allow me to overlook? Stress isn't always pleasant. But handled properly, it can be useful information. It can show you what needs to improve before the next storm comes. This is In the Arena- building wealth and freedom in the real world and sharing the process as I go.
