English
This is the Swahili translation of “Liputa” by Fally Ipupa. It tells the story of a man deeply in love with a woman named Tabu Fatu. From the very beginning, he pleads with her to keep loving him, asking her to keep a linen cloth in her luxurious car to cover him when he feels cold of love. He compares love to oxygen, saying he cannot resist it. Love has no color, no smell, and takes the shape of whatever it’s placed in.
He goes on to say that if he could, he would tattoo Tabu Fatu’s words onto his body so she could read them and maybe change her mind. He confesses he has lost so much weight, like someone living in a war-torn country. The song is full of emotion, poetic imagery, and the pain of true love. These are just a few lines—there’s so much more he says. It’s worth listening from start to finish.
