Pull up a map of the world from the 1700s. Not a modern map. An actual historical map from the 1700s. You can find them online right now. Look at Asia. Look at the enormous territory labeled Tartaria. Grand Tartary. Chinese Tartary. Independent Tartary. It covers most of what is now Russia, Central Asia and parts of China. It is labeled as one of the largest empires on Earth. Now go look at your history books. Go look at what you were taught in school about this period. Tartaria is not there. Not a footnote. Not a minor reference. Just.....gone. An empire that appears on hundreds of official maps from the 1500s through the 1800s, drawn by cartographers from multiple countries who had no reason to coordinate a fictional empire, simply does not exist in the history we were taught. That is the starting point. And it gets stranger from there. Because when you start looking at the physical evidence, the buildings, the architecture, the geological anomalies, the question stops being whether Tartaria existed and starts being what happened to it.
