The family of retired Major General Abel Kandiho is seeking Parliament's intervention over his continued detention, raising concerns about his whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his arrest. The family's appeal has drawn the attention of opposition legislators, with Chief Opposition Whip Paul Mwiru raising the matter in Parliament and calling for answers regarding the detention of Kandiho and retired Brig Gen Charles Bakahumura. Mwiru reportedly told Parliament that the two retired officers were being held incommunicado at an unauthorised location, prompting a discussion about constitutional safeguards and the rights of detained persons. However, Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth directed MPs not to debate the military matter on the parliamentary floor. He indicated that the Defence Minister could be invited to address concerns raised by the families. Minister of Internal Affairs Ephraim Kamuntu also indicated that he could make a statement on the arrests, subject to the parliamentary order of business. Gen Kandiho, a former head of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), was reportedly detained in September 2026 alongside other retired military officers as investigations into alleged security-related offences widened. His continued detention has raised questions about due process, access to legal safeguards and the need for official clarification. Watch this report for the latest developments surrounding Gen Abel Kandiho's detention and the family's appeal to Parliament.
