It comes out thin and close, like a secret in your ear, not the horn across the room. The horn that's sitting right here. I've worn a mask for years, and people ask me what I hide, so I ask him the same thing about the mute inside. He doesn't take it out all night. The mute stays in. The mute stays in. The mask stays on. Not hiding. Closer to the song. Take it off, and what you came for is gone. He says the open horn is for parades and for goodbyes, it fills a street, but it can't sit down at your side. The mute cuts off the shine, and what's left is the grain, the breath, the buzz, the little cracks, a person, plain. Same with me. Take the face away and what's left on the tape is just a voice and its breathing, and there's no other shape. People keep asking when it's coming off. It stays in. The mute stays in. The mask stays on. Not hiding. Closer to the song. Take it off, and what you came for is gone. Closing time, he hands me the mute. Light, dented, thin, twenty years, the same small mute, and it's the sound he lives in. He says nobody ever asked the horn to show its face, they close their eyes and listen, and it finds them anyplace. I give it back. He blows one note, close enough to touch, I pull my mask back up. I was never hiding that much. The mute stays in. The mask stays on. Not hiding. Closer to the song. Take it off, and what you came for is gone. On trumpet: the mute stays in. #RYKER #EnglishRap #HipHop #MaskedRapper #AsianAmerican #TheNoNameLessRAP #TNL #AIMusic #VirtualArtist #OfficialAudio #Personnel #JazzHop #ChillJazz #TheMuteStaysIn YouTube →    / @thenonamelessrap
